Afaina de Jong

Architect Afaina de Jong leads AFARAI, an Amsterdam-based studio that specializes in spatial design. The studio aims to transgress the boundaries of traditional architectural practice through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates theory and research with design. Her work at the intersection of architecture and art is committed to representing people and cultural movements that are not traditionally represented in architectural form. Afaina is the head of the Contextual Design MA department at Design Academy Eindhoven. A longtime educator, she has taught at TU Delft and The Sandberg Institute among other institutions, and has been a guest lecturer at Columbia University GSAPP in New York, KTH in Stockholm, and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. Afaina’s design research The Multiplicity of Other was commissioned for the Dutch Pavilion at the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale.
