Andrew Merritt works as an individual artist and as one half of the duo Something & Son. A pioneer in food-related art, the practice’s works criss-cross the boundaries between arts, architecture, and ecology through permanent installations and functional sculptures that provide a framework or foundation for communities and ecologies to use and build long term change.

Merritt’s long-term projects include Initial Allotment, a sea-based community garden; and Field Hospital set in the UK, Mexico and South Africa, which will nurse landscapes of slow disasters. His work has been exhibited internationally, including Tate Britain, Tate Modern, V&A Museum, Gwangju Biennale, FACT Gallery, Deon Foundation, MAK Vienna, Artangel, Cultural Olympia, Somerset House, Folkestone Triennial, Design Museum, Wellcome Collection, Istanbul Design Biennial, South London Gallery, and Museo Jumex amongst others. His residencies include Delfina Foundation and Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew. Merritt is a founder of Makerversity, Somerset House.

The World Around is a perfect place for sharing ideas, the work that I presented was very much in its infancy and its a great opportunity to bring new work to a global audience at such a point. I have hope for our future as I believe in the resourcefulness of people and the ability of the millions of other species that also call Earth home to find ways to live.
