David Andres Vega Monsalve is an internationally recognized climate activist, visual artist, and XR expert, fusing art, technology, and ancestry to address climate change and preserve natural heritage. He creates immersive experiences fostering environmental empathy and critiquing unsustainable VR resource use, which could be optimized for lower ecological impact. As a Pontificia Universidad Javeriana professor and DV-ritas founder, he leads indigenous collaborations, like Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta projects integrating virtual reality to visualize ancestral rituals.
David’s work, shown at COP26, Ars Electronica, and COP27, promotes sustainable innovation while questioning tech that ignores natural balance. Currently, he advises art, science, and technology projects, supporting emerging creators in world-conscious endeavors. He also leads Armonías Ancestrales, blending ancestral harmonies with tech for environmental preservation, highlighting needs for greener digital practices.
“The World Around's commitment to bridging art, community, and environmental consciousness resonates deeply with my practice of fusing ancestral wisdom with contemporary technology. The organization’s work is vital because it creates spaces where artists can critically examine our relationship with both built and natural environments—questioning not just what we create, but how sustainably we create it.”
