David Chipperfield

Sir David Chipperfield is a British architect. Founded in 1985, Chipperfield’s practice (DCA) has since grown into an international firm with offices in London, Berlin, Milan, Shanghai, and Santiago de Compostela. The practice’s major projects include the River and Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames, England (1997); the Des Moines Public Library in Iowa (2006); the Neues Museum and its adjoining James Simon Gallery in Berlin (2009); The Hepworth Wakefield gallery in England (2011); and the Museo Jumex in Mexico City (2013). DCA has recently completed several significant cultural projects including the refurbishment of Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin (2021), and the conversion of the ROCKBUND collection of historic buildings in Shanghai (2023). Chipperfield was named the 2023 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize.
Alongside his design practice, David has taught and lectured at schools of architecture worldwide including Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, Germany, and Yale University. In 2012, he curated the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale under the title Common Ground.
