Dayana Blanco Quiroga

Dayana Blanco Quiroga is an Aymara Indigenous woman from Oruro, Bolivia. She has a bachelor's degree in International Trade, and is the co-founder of the Uru Uru Team, which is implementing nature-based solutions to restore Lake Uru Uru. The heavy pollutants, such as mercury, coming from mining companies, plastic pollution, and the effects of climate change, are polluting Lake Uru Uru. Along with her community, Dayana is restoring Lake Uru Uru by applying traditional knowledge, elaborating floating rafts where we place Totoras—natural purifiers that mitigate the heavy pollutants of the lake's waters. With this initiative, Dayana’s goal is to restore the Lake Uru Uru house for more than 76 species of birds, and recover the harmony with Mother Earth that has been interrupted by polluting activities.
“Through my participation in The World Around Young Climate Prize, I realized that when we want to talk about nature, borders do not exist. We need spaces to share our struggles, build partnerships, show vulnerability and to lean into the hope that there are more people interested in supporting the work that we are doing.”
