Fowota Mortoo

Fowota Mortoo is a geographer, writer, and visual artist. Her essays and visual works can be found in The Funambulist, Disegno Journal, and You Are Here: The Journal of Creative Geography.
In 2025, she was selected for a month-long curatorial and research residency program with Raw Material Company—a center for contemporary art, culture, and society in Dakar, Senegal. She is currently a graduate student in geography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she is working on redesigning the Keta Library in southeastern Ghana into a site that sustains the region’s cultural and ecological heritage. Her research has been supported by the US National Science Foundation.
