Hsieh Ying-Chun

Hsieh Ying-Chun is a Taiwanese architect and the founder of Atelier-3, known for his work in post-disaster recovery. Ying-Chun moved his studio to rural Taiwan in the wake of the devastating 1999 earthquake, gaining international recognition for his reconstruction work in the remote Thao community. In recent years, Ying-Chun has continued to help communities across East and Southeast Asia build their own homes, from remote rural villages in China to the areas affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Ying-Chun represented Taiwan in the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2006 and the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2009. Ying-Chun is part of the WEAK! collective with Roan Ching-yueh and Marco Casagrande, which runs an independent architectural research center in Taipei. He was awarded the Curry Stone Design Prize in 2011.
