Karinne Tennenbaum

Karinne Tennenbaum is a senior undergraduate at Yale University studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, her diverse research interests have taken her from Panama to Patagonia. She plans to pursue a PhD on track to an academic career in the field of avian migration. She is the founder and executive director of the Taking Flight Project—an educational initiative to inspire the next generation of climate leaders by fostering an environmental ethic among youth through the magic of birding. A Goldwater Scholar and Darwin Leader, Tennenbaum strives to combat climate change by acknowledging, empowering, and bridging the unique ornithological perspectives of students, teachers, scientists, photographers, architects, podcasters, and more. Taking Flight is a grassroots mission to revolutionize the future one young birder at a time.
“Through the Young Climate Prize, The World Around is changing the landscape of climate action one young voice at a time. Thanks to their guidance, I joined a growing global community of trailblazers who helped streamline my efforts in research, education, and conservation to craft a movement that is at last taking flight.”
