Petra Blaisse
Petra Blaisse is a Dutch designer and the founder of Amsterdam-based design studio Inside Outside. Petra began her career in 1978, when she joined the Department of Applied Arts at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. During her time freelancing as an exhibition designer in the years after, Petra collaborated with Yves Brunier and Rem Koolhaas on the Museumpark project in Rotterdam (1994), representing the beginning of her long collaborative relationship with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA).
Petra founded Inside Outside in 1991 and the team has since expanded to include specialists of various nationalities and creative backgrounds. The studio practices across a range of design disciplines, including textile, landscape, and exhibition design. Its notable projects include the Biblioteca degli Alberi in Milan (2018), the Qatar Foundation Headquarters and National Library public gardens in Doha (2016 and 2017, respectively), and the Seattle Public Library (2005).
Petra has lectured and taught extensively across Europe, Asia, and the US, at institutions such as the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and Woodbury University. Her work has been exhibited at international venues including the Nieuwe Institute in Rotterdam. Petra designed the Dutch Pavilion for the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2012.
