Winy Maas is co-founder and partner of Rotterdam-based architecture and urbanism practice MVRDV. Since the firm was established in 1993, Winy has led an interdisciplinary team to international acclaim across a broad range of urban planning and building projects. Demonstrating his commitment to designing sustainable cities and spaces, recent projects led by Winy include the WoZoCo housing project in Amsterdam (1997), Rotterdam’s Markthal (2014), the Tianjin Binhai Library in China (2017), Valley in Amsterdam (2022), and the first publicly accessible art storage facility in the world, Rotterdam’s Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, which opened in 2021. Winy served as a supervisor for the development of Eindhoven city centre from 2017 until 2022.

Alongside his design practice, Winy has held academic roles at numerous international institutions. He is professor of urbanism and architecture at the Delft University of Technology, where he initiated The Why Factory, a research institute that he leads within TU Delft, which explores the development of cities of the future. In 2022, Winy was appointed visiting professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague.
