Abyssinian Cyber-Vernaculus

Miriam Hillawi Abraham is a multidisciplinary designer based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a background in architecture. Working at the intersection of digital media and spatial design, she explores ideas of equitable futurism and intersectionality. Her latest project, Abyssinian Cyber-Vernaculus, is an ambitious series of virtual-reality experiences and visual narratives that challenge the erasure of Black and Brown knowledge systems from the architectural canon. Through this work, Abraham reclaims and reimagines the presence of those marginalized or demonized by Ethiopia’s dominant conservative ethos, while confronting the distorted and reductive myths that have long shaped global perceptions of Africa.
