Amie Siegel in conversation with Beatrice Galilee

Amie Siegel is an artist living and working in New York City. Siegel works variously between film, photography, performance and installation and uses her work to explore case studies, revealing the connection between apparently disparate ideas and phenomena. Her audiovisual installation Asterisms explores geological and social displacement focusing on the specific context of the United Arab Emirates.
In this multichannel video installation, Siegel leads us through migrant labor camps that supply manual work for gold factories and oil recovery; through the surreal landscape of a royal palace where Arabian horses are bred and trained for show; through the process of constructing artificial islands in Dubai; through an abandoned village almost completely submerged by the desert sand… tying together loose threads to paint a holistic picture of geological and social displacement processes that occur on a planetary scale.
