Assemble Studio's Spaces for Creativity and Collaboration

Granby Workshop by Assemble Studio. Tiles of terrazzo are laid out on the floor and against the walls of a vacant brick building.

Maria Lisogorskaya is a founding director of Assemble, a multi-disciplinary collective working across architecture, design, and art. Her projects span scales from material prototyping and product design to architectural projects and organizational strategy. She is currently collaborating with the Material Institute in New Orleans, where she is developing the arts curriculum and an alternative education campus, and is one of the lead designers shaping new spaces for Atelier LUMA, the regional material innovation labs in Arles, France. Lisogorskaya has also held teaching positions internationally, including as the Assemble Visiting Professor of Architecture at EPFL in Switzerland (2020–2021), and previously at TU Vienna and Central Saint Martins in London.

Founded in 2010 to realize a single self-built project, Assemble has since grown into an award-winning practice delivering a diverse body of work that ranges from buildings and public spaces to exhibitions, research, and community initiatives. Known for their democratic and co-operative working method, Assemble engage with both the design and the making of projects, addressing built form, social impact, and material research. Most recently, the collective was elected to the Royal Academy, further cementing its position as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary architecture and design.
