Kiruna Forever

Carlos Mínguez Carrasco is the Chief Curator at ArkDes, the Swedish National Centre for Architecture and Design, where he develops exhibitions and publications that address contemporary architectural and social questions. His recent project, Kiruna Forever, examines the extraordinary relocation of Kiruna, a city in Sweden’s far north that is being moved three kilometers to allow for the expansion of the iron ore mine on which it was founded. One of the largest urban transformations in recent history, the move involves demolishing or transporting housing blocks and landmark buildings, while reshaping the lives of a third of the town’s population. At The World Around, Carrasco will present the exhibition and reflect on the cultural, ecological, and human dimensions of this unprecedented question: how do you move a city?
