Francis Kéré, the 2022 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, is celebrated worldwide for his pioneering communal approach to design and his transformative use of sustainable materials and construction methods. Born in Burkina Faso and educated in Berlin, Kéré has redefined contemporary architecture by combining local building traditions with innovative design strategies that empower communities and respond to climate and place. From his first project—the Gando Primary School in his hometown, realized through collective labor—to landmark commissions such as the Serpentine Pavilion in London, the National Assembly of Burkina Faso, and cultural institutions across Africa, Europe, and the United States, Kéré has championed architecture as a tool for agency, dignity, and joy. Through his Berlin-based practice Kéré Architecture, he leads a diverse team working on projects across four continents, advancing a vision of architecture rooted in sustainability, equity, and shared responsibility.
