Mohamed Salem Mohamed Ali is a Sahrawi farmer, artist, and environmental practitioner who connects caring for the land, creativity, and helping his community stay strong. In 2018, he started a special garden in the very tough conditions of Algeria’s Hamada desert. Growing food there is hard, but his garden is more than that: "a sculpture in the middle of the desert," making it a living artwork. This garden is his way of fighting climate change and the pain of being forced to leave home, using imagination as his tool.
Mohamed Salem also makes films. He uses cinema to share Sahrawi stories and show his community what is possible when you "refuse to surrender to the desert." For him, art is hope. It's a way to rebuild the world, even in the hardest places. His work grows from the Sahrawi people's struggles, but its message of dreaming through difficulty is for everyone, everywhere.
“I support The World Around for empowering young people to achieve their dreams. Organisations like this shape the future.”
