Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian

Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker, space mission designer, and cultural activist. Their work has been showcased at institutions including MoMA, V&A museum, The Met, National Museum of China, and Gaité Lyrique. She has collaborated with NASA, the UN, and underground communities worldwide. Nelly founded the tuition-free University of the Underground, NASA’s International Space Orchestra, SETI Institute’s Experiences department, and the nationwide LGBTQA+ festival Tour de Moon. They are the director of five feature films exploring diasporic and queer ecofeminist futures. In 2023, they led a lunar analog mission in Spain resulting in the first academic paper on Intergenerational Trauma and Decolonial Futures in Space Exploration. Recent work includes Art of London’s takeover of Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, a world-first event broadcasting human heartbeats, and unreleased tracks from Massive Attack and Pussy Riot to the moon and back.
