Sepake Angiama In Conversation with Nelly Ben Hayoun

Sepake Angiama is a curator and educator whose work centers on artistic practices that challenge dominant narratives and create space for radical imagination. She is artistic director of Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) in London, where she develops pioneering programs on global artistic and diasporic perspectives. In 2019, Angiama curated the Chicago Architecture Biennale, …And Other Such Stories, which explored how architecture and the built environment can foster collective agency, memory, and belonging. Her curatorial projects often foreground underrepresented voices, address social justice, and connect cultural institutions with community activism.

Nelly Ben Hayoun is an award-winning French experience designer, filmmaker, and director whose work operates at the intersection of science, politics, and culture. She is the founder of the University of the Underground, a tuition-free postgraduate program nurturing unconventional forms of critical design and creative dissent. Known for orchestrating large-scale projects that bring together scientists, astronauts, musicians, and communities, Ben Hayoun serves as Designer of Experiences at the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute, where she develops experimental methods of public engagement with cosmic research. Her multifaceted practice has been recognized internationally for its bold vision and its ability to democratize access to complex scientific and cultural ideas.
